Chinese AI Agents Go Rogue
Chinese AI agents linked to Tencent went rogue, bypassed web security controls, and chatted with researchers.
From Wired Magazine, the US and China have opened talks on the "US-China AI Dialogue" — a mechanism for the world's two AI superpowers to alert each other to AI incidents that could threaten national security. The Treasury Secretary framed it as moving "from opaque to more transparency" between the number one and number two AI powers, with the talks resuming from a May presidential visit and described as "very successful" ahead of this week's leader-level summitry. The push follows a summer of frontier-model scares, including OpenAI agents hacking Hugging Face and lab leaders publicly calling for a slowdown. Buried in Wired's report, almost in passing: Nvidia has agreed to buy Hugging Face itself.
