Trump Signs Executive Order Seeking Oversight of A.I. Models
The White House reversed its hands-off stance on A.I., asking tech companies to voluntarily submit new models for a 30-day government review.
Reporting from the r/MachineLearning community, Hugging Face has fully relaunched Papers With Code — the research-tracking platform Meta shut down in 2023 — as paperswithcode.co, and this week expanded the site to include complete coverage of CVPR 2026, linking each paper directly to its open-source implementation. The Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition conference is one of the most-cited venues in applied machine learning; having its 2026 proceedings indexed and linked within days of release restores infrastructure the community lost over two years ago.
The original site, maintained by Meta AI, was the single most useful tool for finding state-of-the-art results with working code across any ML task — object detection, image segmentation, generative modeling, and dozens of others. When Meta shut it down, researchers were left piecing together the same information from scattered arXiv threads and GitHub searches.
Hugging Face's revival is part of a deliberate strategy to become the neutral infrastructure layer of the open-source AI ecosystem. Having now accumulated Spaces, model cards, the Datasets hub, and Papers With Code, the company holds a more comprehensive position in academic and open-source AI tooling than any individual lab — including the ones with larger compute budgets.
The two-week gap between relaunch and the CVPR drop suggests a planned rollout. Meta has not commented on the closure or the revival.
